Now a days channel for kids has been increased rapidly. Since 2007, there has been amazing revolution happened around the TV channels on offering various program for school kids. One of such channel for kids is Hungama TV which is based in Mumbai. It is a subsidiary of UTV networks and it was launched on 23th may, 2004. But later it was sold to Disney for some reasons in 2006. The channel obtained its identity and also started helping to increase gradually Disney’s presence in India. Hungama TV has been very popular from the beginning itself. It is also available in various languages such as Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
But this channel once got a number of complaints about a particular show called Shin Chan. Actually it is said as an adult show in china. Many sources told that guardians filed against hosting the program since children learned a lot of bad habits and also abusing words from the show. So naturally the show Shin Chan was stopped temporarily at that time. As the result of this, many die hard fans of Shin Chan got disappointed towards the channel and also wanted re-telecast their favorite program again. Meanwhile the channel owners utilized this time to remove the unwanted scenes and languages which could be harmful to kids. Then, at last the program was telecast again on Hungama TV. Just like Shin Chan, another program named Detective Conan was stopped telecasting, for the same reason.
After few months in order to develop the popularity of the channel, Hungama TV had announced for the biggest talent hunt for children, saying that the winners will get the chance of working with John Abraham in a film produced by UTV Motion Pictures. The same company has produced the blockbuster film Rang de Basanti. According to Zarina Mehta, the president of Hungama the winners will win rs. 10 lakhs too along with a three year agreement with UTV Company for the management of their career. The audition held at 5 different cities for choosing the lucky winners among 1000 candidates. The channel went to Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad for the audition. The sponsors of this contest were Maggi, Sun Feast, Bournvita and Dermi cool. The co-sponsors were Tata Salt, Waffy, Add Gel Achiever and Horlicks. and Finally the winners who won the prize were mitashi and adith. This mega hunt was promoted through various media such as TV channels, Internet, Newspaper and Radio.
Hungama TV has signed a contract with STAR network for the distribution rights of this channel. This distribution rights will be valid for next 5 years saying that no other channels can enjoy its copyrights. Hungama TV is the 12th channel to join in STAR network, but it is the only channel for kids. The way of taking the channel to various phases is brilliant among all other channels in India. Though there is a heavy competition Hungama TV has taken all the right efforts to make it big and popular.
